Everyone agrees that the bottom line is the most important aspect of any business venture, but Developers don’t always agree on the best methods of achieving that maximum profitability. There are many facets of a project that can negatively impact your financials, but few have the potential of going way over budget quicker than your Erosion Control line item. Hydroseeding can play a major role in saving you money, thus increasing your bottom line. Now you may be one of the anti–hydroseeding elk that believe this actually takes away from your profitability, but I would ask you to take a closer look at the benefits and potential hazards of ignoring this key BMP. Spending a little money up front by stabilizing critical points of your development can prevent massive erosion and save your site from very costly and unnecessary work to be performed such as: demucking silt fence and headwalls, re-walking slopes and pads, creek and pond cleanings, storm drain clean outs, and street cleanings. It can also protect you from STOP WORK ORDERS which can cost thousands of $$$ per day in machine down time and possible litigation costs from County Officials. Do yourself a favor and spend a little up front in hydro-seeding costs to save you from spending mega bucks on the back end.
